In memory of Emma

Emma, a col­lege class­mate of mine and fel­low devoted pho­tog­ra­pher, passed in late Decem­ber 2008. While I was not close friends with Emma, I am stunned and incred­i­bly sad­dened by the early loss of a charis­matic, intel­li­gent, and pas­sion­ate artist, with whom I shared dark­rooms for 2 years. While my best wishes go out to all whom she has touched, I’d like to point out an essay Emma wrote, about the dif­fi­culty of medi­a­tion and the neces­sity of love and art.
